The Moose Lake-Willow River boys and girls golf teams swept the Polar Conference meet Tuesday afternoon at Lakeview National Golf Course in Two Harbors. The Rebels, by winning both the boys and girls events have proven themselves the powers of Polar League Conference Golf.

“It’s tough when you lose a Esko-Carlton that merged with Cloquet and Cook County who dropped golf for tennis, we lose two solid programs that competed in the Polar League.” Event host Mike Fitzpatrick told Northland Sports Online. “The game of golf is something you do and enjoy and play for a lifetime; so it’s sad to see programs fold or don’t have enough numbers to compete.”

The Rebels won the boys division by having four players finish in the top five, actually sweeping the top four places as they finished with a team total of 173. Two Harbors was second with 203, Barnum was third with 226, and it was Wrenshall finishing fourth with 229.

The Lady Rebels won the girls event with a team total of 199, Barnum came in second with a total of 241, and it was Wrenshall finishing third with a 323 point total. Two Harbors didn’t have enough girls playing to qualify for a team total.

The boys medalist was Grant Douglas of ML-WR, who shot a 43 Tuesday afternoon. Stephen Gassert was second with a 43, Gabe Douglas and Nathaniel Koeck tied for third with 44’s, and it was Two Harbors Asher Jenkins and Tyler Schramm finishing in a tie for fifth with a total of 49.
