Indoor Meet Kicks Off Polar League Track Season

Polar League track thinclads had a chance to test their early season fitness with an annual indoor meet held on the campus of UMD. Early results show that there were a number of stellar performances including those by Esko senior Max Reinertsen. Reinertsen won the triple jump with a personal best and set the school record in the first meet of the year.


Not only did Reinertsen win the triple jump, but he won by 8-feet over his nearest competition which was runner up Jake Disterhaupt of MLWR. Reinertsen went 44′ 1″ in a winning performance and Disterhaupt jumped 36′ to easily take second place.


Esko girls fresh off a state true team championship won all the relays and their 2nd team came in second overall in the 4×176 (4x once around the indoor track at UMD).


In the 55 hurdles it was Maddie Wielinski of Two Harbors winning the girls race in 9.94, while the boys race was a tight photo finish with Jacob Tucker of Esko just nipping Michael Pender of ML-WR, as both ran 9.5.


Abby Michels of Silver Bay squeaked out another tight finish in the 60-meter dash by beating Lacey Myrdal of Two Harbors after both ran 7.71.


In the boys 60-meter dash it was Max Reinertsen of Esko winning in 6.63 with teammate Riley Mudek finishing second in 6.70.


The 200 saw Kaitlyn Kelley of Wrenshall win in a time of 29.4 and Dana Olson of MLWR took second in a time of 30.0.


Michael Pender of MLWR was the winner of the boys 200 in 25.0 with Dan Gelhar of McGregor finishing second in 25.2.


Silver Bay’s Abby Michels won the 400 in 1:07.5 for her second win of the day and Kaitlyn Kelley of Wrenshall took second in the event to go along with her first place finish in the 200.


Kyle Blood of Silver Bay completed a sweep in the 400 for the Mariners with a win in the 400 in a time of 56.2 and Jason Myrvold from Floodwood was second in a time of 57.5.


The girls 800 was won by Mackenzi Louzek of MLWR in 2:41.9 and Stacy Larva of Floodwod was second in 2:46.5.

Ben Moonen from MLWR won the boys 800 in a time of 2:13.2 while Hutar of Cromwell was second in 2:16.8.


Marina Schreiner of Two Harbors turned in one of the most impressive performances of the day by clocking a 6:05.4 in the 1600 to easily outpace the field. Haley Radel of MLWR was second in 6:14.4.


The boys 1600 was won by Ben Mattinen Esko in 5:08.5 with Pfistner of Cromwell running a 5:10.2 to place second.


Two Harbors won the boys 4×176 (one lap) relay in 1:21.7 and Wrenshall was second in 1:24.3. As in the girls relays the Esko boys then dominated with wins in the 1600 and 3200 relays.


Delany Pearson of Esko placed first in both the long jump with a leap of 14-5.0 and in the triple jump with a jump of 29-10.0. Lacey Myrdal of Two Harbors was second in the long jump in a jump of 14-4.0. Megan Bergstedt of Esko was second in the triple jump with a leap of 29-6.0.


The girls shot put was won by Steph McGregor of Two Harbors with a toss of 33-11 with teammate Kaley Peterson finishing second with a throw of 31-6.


Lindsey Dahl-Holm of Carlton won the girls high jump with a jump of 4-10 and Megan Bergstedt of Esko was second with a jump of 4-07.


Three boys jumped 5-06 in the high jump, but it was Darren Foss of Esko nipping Taylor Woodwick of Silver Bay and Jake Disterhaupt of ML-WR for the title.


Baruch Fischer from Silver Bay took top honors in the boys shot with a toss of 42-9.0 and Evan Orbeck from McGregor was second in 41-9.0.


The boys long jump title went to Gabrial Baumgardt of McGregor who went 19-9.5 and Cody Farrell of Floodwood jumped 17-11.0 to take second place.
