Wrenshall Comes Up Just Short In Season Finale

The Wrenshall Wrens closed out their 2011-2012 regular season with a loss to the Ogilvie Lions by a score of 60-55. The Lions and Wrens battled throughout both halves; but in the end the Lions prevailed with the five point road victory.


The Wrens who were seeking to pick up their second win of the season fell just short as they now prepare for the Section 7A playoffs, which Wrenshall will begin Monday night, starting the playoffs on the road.


Pat Gustafson led all scorers Friday night as he connected on four 3-pointers and scored 20 points for Wrenshall. Derek Duncan and Peter Granholm each finished with 10, Jack Dolter added 6, Jared Kittle finished with 5, and it was Mitch Frank with 4.


The Lions were led by Caleb Trongard who finished with 15; Hunter Welinski added 14, Blake Persson 10, Doug Welch scored 9, Jagur Blackstad 6, AJ Brasch 3, Luke Crowell 2, and it was Chris Mason ended the Lions scoring with 1 point.


The Wrens finish the regular season with an overall record of 1-21 and they will start the Section 7A playoffs on Tuesday night with a road game against conference rival Cromwell. The Cardinals will be seeded seventh in the Section 7A playoffs.


The Lions will start their section playoffs on Thursday when they will play at Royalton in the Section 5A second round. Barnum is the number one seed in the eastern half of Section 5A, while Browerville is the number one seed in the western half of Section 5A.
