Cromwell Boys Get 64-53 Road Win Over Wrenshall

The Cromwell Cardinals took advantage of 27 trips to the free throw line Friday night as the Cardinals ended a six game losing streak by beating the Wrens 64-53 at Wrenshall High School on Friday night.


The Cardinals took advantage of those 27 free throw attempts connecting on 15 of the 27, where as the Wrens made only 10 trips to the charity stripe and Wrenshall hit only four of the 10 free throws.


The Cardinals, wining only their second game in the last 12 picked up their third conference win of the season with the victory; it was also their fourth sectional win of the year. The loss was the 15 straight for Wrenshall and they are still winless in conference and sectional play.


Austin Johnson had a breakout game for the Cardinals, scoring 23 points on the night, Jake Ramberg chipped in with 15, Jared Hutar added 14, Josh Oliver scored 7, while Richard Olson added 3, and rounding out the Cromwell scoring was Joe Couture with 2.


Wrenshall was led by Mitch Frank who had 14 points; Pat Gustafson scored 13 points for the Wrens, Jared Kittel added 9, Peter Granholm added 7, Derek Duncan and Jack Dolter both scored 4, and it was Matt O’Conner chipping in with 2 points.


Cromwell improves to 4-12 and they will host Lakeview Christian Academy on Saturday afternoon. Wrenshall remains winless at 0-15 on the season and they will try to regroup on Monday night when they play at Cherry in a sectional contest.
