Expectations for the Moose Lake – Willow River boy’s baseball team are high entering this season. Two years ago the Rebels were 4-13, last season they were 16-4 overall and this year they are poised for a deep playoff run and hopefully an appearance in the State Boys Baseball Tournament.

The 2007-2008 season saw the Rebels capture the Polar League Championship and they are looking to repeat again. “We should be very competitive and expectations are very high,” Head Coach Lyle Halverson told NSO. Halverson also mentioned “We are returning all of our starting pitching, and seven position players, so we should be sitting good as we enter the season.”

Looking at this year’s team, the Rebels will return Junior Adam Ryan who led the Rebels in batting last season with .460 batting average; Nate Zuk hit .424 with 25 RBIs and had a 1.81 ERA. Rejean Carlson hit .400 and tied the team lead with 25 runs scored, Joey Bohaty hit .377 scored 25 runs and led the team with 27 RBIs, and Daniel Anderson who had a 17 game hitting streak, and ended the season with a .355 batting average.

Other’s that will contribute are Michael Unzen, Hayden Hoffmann, Rudy Ketchum, Beau Abrahamson, Trevor Nummela, and Ryan Adamczak. Head Coach Halverson is assisted by Dean Levinski. The Rebels baseball season is set to begin Tuesday April 14th as the Rebels host the Floodwood Polar Bears. This is the first of three home games to open the season as they host Cromwell on Thursday and Proctor on Saturday. The first away game is at Carlton April 21st.
