DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica college women’s tennis team came away with a clean slate 9-0 thrashing over their Minnesota Intercollegiate foe Saint Mary’s on Saturday afternoon. The lady Saints would not drop a single game in doubles play before displaying their fighting spirit in a couple of superbreaker singles matches. CSS (6-12) improve to 3-6 in the MIAC with this victory. Their next and final match will be tomorrow at the Saint’s alternate home indoor courts in Virginia where Scholastica will host Hamline for senior day.

Doubles
To kick off the match St. Scholastica would keep things business like with all three courts holding their red bird opposition to 0 games. Julia Maier (Hamburg, Germany/Heidberg Gymnasium) and Anna Ritchie (Becker, Minn./Becker HS) on court 1, Mishell Benitez (Ambato, Ecuador/Colegio Tecnico Particular a Distancia José Martí) and Katia Bartels (St. Paul, Minn./Mounds View HS) on court 2, and Annika Lundell (Hibbing, Minn.) and Chloe Hasbargen (Bemidji, Minn.) wrapping things up on court 3.

Singles
The Saints would be pushed hard by the Cardinals in singles but showed great resilience on courts No. 3 and No. 4 when Benitez and Ritchie each came through victorious in superbreakers, 3-6, 6-2, 10-3 and 6-4, 4-6, 10-7. Maier and Martina Garcia (Cuenca, Ecuador/Catalinas HS (Eastern Florida State College)) rolled at the top two singles positions 6-3, 6-1, and 6-4, 6-2. On the remaining two courts No. 5 Bartels and No. 6 Taylor Vyskocil (Ashland, Wis.) also raced to straight-set victories 6-2, 6-2 and 6-2, 6-1.
