UWS Mens Soccer Win 7th Straight

SUPERIOR, Wis. – Senior forward Blake Perry (Anoka, Minn./Anoka) scored a goal and an assist – including the game winner – to help the UW-Superior men’s soccer team to a 4-1 victory over Northwestern at NBC Spartan Sports Complex on Saturday.

The Yellowjackets scored a pair of goals in each half on the way to their seventh consecutive win. Perry scored his 12th of the season in the 36th minute with an assist from sophomore Carter Tess (Merrimack, N.H./Merrimack) to put Superior up, 2-0. After the Eagles cut into the lead with a 64th-minute Isaac Friesen marker, Protus Babaya (Elk River, Minn./Elk River) converted a penalty in the 69th minute.

Sophomore Phillip Eriksen (Skjetten, Norway/Lorenskog) put the finishing touches on the win, completing a tremendous passing play with Perry in the 87th minute. Eriksen’s 10th goal of the season gives UWS three players with double digits for the season.

UWS benefitted from an own goal in the 13th minute to open the scoring.

Superior outshot the Eagles, 24-12 and 10-7 in shots on target. Northwestern led in corner kicks, 9-7.

Freshman goalkeeper Alex Paredes (Mequon, Wis./Homestead) made three saves to improve to 12-4-0. Senior Payton Anderson (Red Wing, Minn./Red Wing) also made three stops, playing the final half hour.

The win moves UWS to 12-6-0 overall and 11-1-0 in the UMAC with two matches to play. UNW falls to 7-7-1 and 6-5-1 in the league.
