MANKATO, Minn. – Senior forward Blake Perry (Anoka, Minn./Anoka) scored a fourth-minute goal and freshman Alex Paredes (Mequon, Wis./Homestead) made it stand making five saves for his first collegiate clean sheet as the UW-Superior men’s soccer team nipped Bethany Lutheran, 1-0, on Saturday.

Perry’s goal 3:27 into the match off of a feed from classmate Protus Babaya (Elk River, Minn./Elk River) was all the offense the Yellowjackets needed. On the play, Perry slipped the ball passed Bethany Lutheran goalkeeper Nick Lundburg low on the left. The goal was his 10th of the season.

From there, Paredes (9-4-0) made saves on Max Busch in the seventh, 63rd and 83rd minutes as well as Julio Castanon in the 50th. He also turned aside an effort from Liam Peterson just 45 seconds into the match.

Superior led, 17-15, in shots and 7-5 in shots on target. Lundberg made saves Josh Bellamy (High Wycombe, England/FAB Football Academy) in the 35th minute, Blake Doyea (Ramsey, Minn./Anoka) and Babaya in the 51st and 53, respectively, and Nicolai Stokker (Klokkarstua, Norway/St. Hallvard) in the 82nd. Lundberg (7-4-0) also stopped Doyea in the 84th and Perry in the 85th minute.
