After playing nearly two periods of scoreless hockey, Prior Lake sophomore defenseman Will Magnuson broke the stalemate late in the second period with a power-play goal that proved to be the game-winner, as the Lakers beat Duluth East 2-0 at Dakotah! Ice Center in Prior Lake.

The Lakers (8-8-1, 6-5-1) came into Friday’s tilt on a three-game winless streak that included two losses and a tie. Magnuson’s goal and a second power-play goal by senior forward Charlie Kashmark early in the third period helped Prior Lake get its first win since Jan. 8.

Both teams combined for eight penalties, including one five-minute major and a double-minor.

Duluth East (11-6-2, 1-0-0) could not crack the scoreboard against Prior Lake senior goaltender Cade Kujawski, who stopped 19 shots in his first shutout of the season.

Greyhounds senior Brody Rabold registered 15 saves in a losing effort. Both teams return to action on Saturday as the Lakers take on South Suburban Conference foe, Rosemount. Duluth East heads home to faceoff against Eagan.
