Lumberjacks Fall In Section 7AAA Championship

The North Branch Vikings toppled the Cloquet Lumberjacks twice on Friday night to win their first Section 7AAA championship.

The Lumberjacks fell by a score of 12-5 in the first game and followed that up with an 11-1 loss to become the Section 7AAA runners-up.

In the first game, Sam Pederson got the win for the Vikings. She pitched a complete game, allowing six hits, while striking out eight batters. She also helped North Branch offensively, going 3×4 with a home run and three runs batted in.

Pederson also received the win in game two, pitching a complete game again, allowing just three hits. Offensively, Katelyn Berg went 2×5 with a double and four runs batted in to help send the Vikings to their first ever state tournament.

Lucy Sinkkonen got the loss in both games for the Lumberjacks.

With the win, the Vikings improved to 23-2 on the season. The Lumberjacks ended their season with a 16-7 record.
