Bulldogs Overcome Deficit To Win

Carlton’s Matthew Santkuyl hit two free throws with 9 seconds remaining in the game to cap off the Bulldogs 13 point comeback and securing the 65-62 victory over the Silver Bay Mariners.

The Bulldogs and Mariners were knotted up at 29-29 going into the half. The Mariners came out firing in the second half, building up a 13 point lead, but the Bulldogs never gave up as they’d outscore Silver Bay 36-33 in the second half, en route to a key Section 7A victory.

Matthew Hey led the way for the Bulldogs offense, tallying 26 points in the win. Matthew Santkuyl added 15 points, while Ben Soderstrom also scored in double digits, chipping in 10 points. Rounding out the scoring for the Bulldogs was Jackson Mickle and Jacob Santkuyl each with 7.

In the loss, Jason Blood scored a team high 25 points. Following blood was James Nopola with 16 points and Mason Ollman with 12 points. Riley Tiboni added 7 points and Zach Blood scored 2 points to top the scoring off for the Mariners.

With the win, the Bulldogs move to 11-9 on the season. They will be back in action on February 12th when they host the Isle Huskies (7-13). The Mariners fall to 13-9 on the season and will look to bounce back on February 12th when they face the Two Harbors Agates (3-16).
