The Little Brown Jug rivalry between the Wrenshall Wrens and Carlton Bulldogs dates back to 1951, with the Wrens winning the very first meeting, 44-42. The Wrens would do much of the same on Friday night, taking the Little Brown Jug back for the first time since 2015, with a 65-53 victory over the Bulldogs.

The Wrens took a 42-26 lead into the half. The Bulldogs came out of the half strong, holding the Wrens scoreless for the first 10 minutes, while cutting the lead down to four, but it wouldn’t be enough as the Wrens pulled away late in the second half to secure the win.

Eli Krisak led the Wrens with 15 points, followed by Tyler Kelley with 14 and Nick Mattson and Randy Wimmer each with 12 points. Chase Duncan and Jared Kelley each chipped in 4 points, while Kyle Despot and Danny Merrill rounded it out with 2 a piece.

Ben Soderstrom led the Bulldogs with a game high 18 points. Matt Hey and Matt Santkuyl each added 9 points in the loss. Also scoring for the Bulldogs was Jackson Mickle with 7, Scott Rousseau and Jacob Santkuyl each with 4, and Mateo Garcia Agui topping the scoring off with 2.

Despite the loss, the Bulldogs still lead the all-time series for the Little Brown Jug with 44 wins to 24 losses.

With the win, the Wrens improve to 8-1 on the season. They’ll be back in action on January 9th when they host the McGregor Mercuries (4-4). The Bulldogs drop to 4-6 on the year and will look to bounce back on the road against the Cherry Tigers (1-8) on January 8th.
