SUPERIOR, Wis. (November 25, 2017) – The Yellowjackets capitalized on two first-period goals to get the win over rival St. Scholastica Saturday night.

Jake Hamilton (Decatur, Ill./Nequa Valley) got things started for Superior, scoring his first goal on the season at 9:11 of the first period. The ‘Jackets were shot-handed on the play, but that didn’t prove anything as Daniel Litchke (Superior, Wis./Superior) got the assist. A Saints penalty would ensue in the coming minutes, but they were able to kill at 15:38.

Two minutes later, Liam Blais (Uxbridge, Ont./Uxbridge Secondary) would find the twine for the ‘Jackets at 17:23, getting assists from Aidan Salerno (Long Beach, N.Y./Avon Old Farms), and Litchke, as Superior would take a 2-0 lead heading into the first intermission.

The second period ramped up the intensity, as each team found two power-play chances, but couldn’t capitalize. The ‘Jackets would continue their 2-0 lead into the final period.

The game came down to the final minutes, a five-minute penalty on the ‘Jackets would allow a Saints power play at 13:41. This was followed by even more Yellowjacket penalty trouble, as they played down two men in the final three minutes. The Saints were able to find the net thereafter, but not without consequences, as the goal-scorer was penalized for taunting.

The final horn would sound, securing the third Yellowjacket victory of 2017-18.

Superior again outshot their opponent, 30-23 on the game. Cole Skinner (Lunenberg, N.S./Parkview Education Centre) got above .500 with the win, saving 22 pucks, including 13 in the final period.

Superior will be on the road next week, Nov. 28, as they play their second game of the season against the Northland Lumberjacks.
