Jacks Move into State Finals

Cloquet has made it back to a state championship game for the first time since 1976. The Lumberjacks did so with a 40-21 victory over South St. Paul in the Class AAAA semifinals on Friday, Nov. 17 at U.S. Bank Stadium.

Senior quarterback Tim Pokornowski was a dual threat on the ground and through the air with more than 300 all-purpose yards.

He rushed for 249 yards on 30 carries and scored a touchdown to spur Cloquet to four unanswered scores over the final three quarters.

He also completed 3 of 7 passes for 57 yards. His longest pass was a 45-yard touchdown strike to senior Aahsan Maigag. Maigag also had a rushing touchdown.

Cloquet (12-0) advances to the Class AAAAA championship game on Saturday, Nov. 25 where it will face Holy Angels. In its last championship appearance, Cloquet was the Class AA runner-up in 1976.

Senior running back Angel Rodriguez had 85 yards rushing for the Packers (9-3).
