Storm ends Cardinals Season

The finish was strong for the Storm, however, as they handed Cromwell-Wright a 39-22 setback Friday night in the quarterfinals of the Minnesota 9-man high school football playoffs. Joston Hoeper scored four touchdowns to lead Stephen-Argyle.

The Storm take an 11-1 record into the state semifinals. Cromwell-Wright ended its season 11-1.

Cromwell-Wright scored on a 4-yard pass from Drew Libbon to Isaac Shelton on the game’s opening drive to take a 6-0 lead. On Stephen-Argyle’s ensuing possession, the Storm moved inside the Cardinals’ 20-yard line before turning the ball over on a lost fumble.

Hoeper scored touchdowns on 4-, 2- and 2-yard runs and Collin Neuschwander kicked a pair of extra points as Stephen-Argyle built a 20-6 halftime lead.

The S-A fullback added a 4-yard TD run in the third quarter. He finished with game-high totals of 22 carries for 131 yards. Stoene Spilde added 119 yards on 16 carries, including a 29-yard touchdown run.

The Storm also received a 30-yard touchdown pass from Hunter Yutrzenka to Isaac Durand.

Cromwell-Wright scored on two long runs (Cameron Cahoon 63 yards and Kannon Korpela 37 yards) in the second half. But Stephen-Argyle finished with a 349-241 advantage in total offense, including 305 yards rushing.
