The Cromwell Cardinals finished their regular season on Wednesday night, beating the Wrenshall Wrens 39-8 en route to a perfect 8-0 regular season record.

The Wrens got out to an early 6-0 lead on the Cardinals on a 4 yard run from Randy Wimmer, but it’d be all Cromwell from there. The Cardinals answered the Wrenshall score with a 42 yard run from Drew Libbon and a field goal from Enrico Francato to make it 10-6.

Wrenshall would get on the board again in the 2nd quarter, this time via a safety, making the score 10-8 heading into the half.

In the 2nd half, Libbon would push the Cardinal lead to 17-8 after getting into the end zone on a 6 yard run. Nic Johnson helped add to the lead with a pair of touchdowns coming from 42 yards and 34 yards out, making it a 31-8. Cameron Cahoon capped off the regular season for the Cardinals with a 3 yard run, making it a 39-8 record.

With the win, the Cromwell Cardinals secured the top seed in the Section 5 9-man playoffs. They will host the Hill City Hornets (3-5) on October 24th. The Wrens are now 6-2 in the loss. They were awarded the second seed in the Section 5 9-man playoffs and will play host to their cross town rivals, the Carlton Bulldogs (3-5) on October 24th.
