North Woods, Crosby-Ironton Finish As State Runners-Up

The North Woods Grizzlies, Crosby-Ironton Rangers, and Grand Rapids Thunderhawks participated in the Minnesota State Boys Basketball tournament this past weekend.

In the Class A tournament, the North Woods Grizzlies faced 3rd seeded Central Minnesota Christian, topping them 54-51 on a half-court buzzer beater from sophomore Cade Goggleye. In the semi-finals, Goggleye would hit two free throws late to top 2nd seeded Goodhue, 51-49. The Grizzlies would fall in the State Championship game to Minneapolis North, 96-49, ending their season with a 31-2 record and 2nd place in Class A.

In the Class AA tournament, the Crosby-Ironton Rangers drew the 3rd seed. They faced off with unseeded Breckenridge, topping them 64-50. In the semi-finals, the Rangers topped St. Cloud Cathedral, 53-42 to advance to the State Championship game. In the title game, the Rangers faced off with Minnehaha, falling 47-36 in the low scoring affair. The Rangers ended their season as Class AA Runners-Up and a 30-3 record.

In the Class AAA tournament, Grand Rapids opened up against 3rd seeded Marshall, falling 83-64. In the consolation bracket, they matched up with St. Thomas Academy, falling 80-77. The Thunderhawks ended their season with a 24-7 record.
