Hermantown Wins 8th Straight Section Title

The Hermantown Hawks will make their 8th consecutive trip to the State Tournament, defeating the Greenway Raiders 5-1 in the Section 7A championship game.

The Hawks would get out to a fast start, going up 1-0 after a goal from Ryan Sandelin at the 15 minute mark. In the second period, Jesse Jacques would score two goals for the Hawks, one at the 2 minute mark and another at the 15 minute mark to put Hermantown up 3-0 at the end of the 2nd period.

The Hawks would go up 4-0 after a Tyler Watkins goal early in the 3rd period. The Raiders would finally get on the board at the 6 minute mark after a goal from Nikolai Rajala to cut the Hawks lead to 4-1, but Watkins would capitalize on a power play two minutes later to make it a 5-1 final in favor of the Hawks.

Cade McEwen made 15 saves in the win for the Hawks, while Austin Anick stopped 39 shots on the night for Greenway.

The Hawks, who have won 26 games straight, are now 26-1-1 on the season. Their opponent for the state tournament is still TBD. The Raiders end their season with a 18-8-1 record.
