George Bailey – NSO

In its closest game of the season thus far, the University of Minnesota Duluth was bested by Bemidji State University, 60-57. It was the first Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference win of the 2016-17 campaign for the Beavers.

BSU (4-9; 1-8 NSIC) used the three-ball to down UMD (9-5; 7-3 NSIC) Friday night. The Beavers went 10-for-21 (47.6 percent) from beyond the arc, shooting four of them in the third quarter alone to bring a nine point lead into the final.

Senior guard Tatum Sheley shot 6-for-10 for 16 points and fell just one rebound short of a double-double. Sheley was responsible four of the 10 three-pointers for BSU, going 4-for-6 from deep. Senior forward Taylor Meyer garnered her fourth double-double of the season. Meyer shot 6-for-17 for 13 points and grabbed 10 rebounds; all defensive. Sophomore guard Sammy Kozlowski led the Bulldogs with 16 points, adding a pair of rebounds, assists, and steals. Kozlowski came in clutch for UMD late in the game, draining two big three-pointers in the final minute to keep it a one basket game.

UMD will look to get back on the winning track as it takes on Winona State University (13-3; 8-2 NSIC) on Friday (Jan. 13) at 6 p.m. The Warriors come off a heart-breaking 52-51 loss to Sioux Falls after having won their pervious four games.
