In a rivalry that has been going since the early 1950’s, the Carlton Bulldogs and Wrenshall Wrens battled again for the coveted Little Brown Jug. The Bulldogs, who brought the Little Brown Jug back home last season, retained it in a tightly contested 67-59 victory.

The game saw a fast paced first half, with the Bulldogs narrowly holding a 31-28 lead into halftime. The second half was much of the same with back and forth action, but the Bulldogs were able to outscore the Wrens, 36-31, to retain the Little Brown Jug.

Matthew Hey and Waylon Lekander led the way for the Bulldogs, each scoring 17 points in the win. Following them was Sam Macor, who also got into double figures with 13 points. Also for Carlton, Tyler Ojibway scored 8 points, Eric Soderstrom and Nate Nilsen each added 5 points, and Jackson Mickle topped it off with 2 points.

In the loss for the Wrens, Tyler Kelley had a game high 24 points, including hitting five three pointers. Randy Wimmer and Nick Mattson scored 13 points and 12 points respectively. Also scoring was Jared Kelley with 8 points and Chase Duncan with 2 points.

The all-time record for the Little Brown Jug now stands at 44-23 in favor of the Bulldogs.

The Bulldogs move to 10-1 on the season with the victory and will be back in action on January 9th when they play Fond du Lac Ojibwe Ogichida (0-9) at the Fond du Lac Tribal and Community College. The Wrens fall to 8-3 on the season, with all 3 of those losses coming against the Bulldogs. They will look to bounce back on  January 10th when they travel to play the McGregor Mercuries (8-1).
