Cromwell Falls in Semis

Cleveland/Immanuel Lutheran took another step toward what could be the program’s first football state championship with a 38-29 victory over Cromwell-Wright in the Class Nine-Man semifinals Thursday at U.S. Bank Stadium.

Junior quarterback Carter Korpet was a dual offensive threat, rushing for 108 yards and scoring two touchdowns. He also completed 22 of 39 passes for 212 yards and three other touchdowns to power the Clippers (13-0), who were knocked out in the 2015 quarterfinals be eventual champion Grand Meadow.

Junior receiver Austin Plonsky was Kopet’s favorite target with nine receptions for 112 yards and two touchdowns.

Cromwell-Wright (12-1), which held a 22-20 lead at the half, was led by senior quarterback Zion Smith, who rushed for 89 yards and threw for 93. He ran for a touchdown and threw for another.
