Cloquet Takes Down Hibbing

Cade Pierson – NSO

Cloquets defense had an impressive night Friday, forcing two turnovers and two sacks while pitching a shutout in the second half against Hibbing.

There was no scoring in the first quarter, as it took awhile for both teams to get things going.

Joseph Deppa got the scoring started for the Jacks in the second quarter, catching a 37-yard touchdown pass from Quarterback Tim Pokornowski.

Hibbing would have an answer though, as James Gibson reeled in a 3-yard pass from Travis Carruth to tie the game up 7-7.

The score would remain 7-7 at halftime.

Aahsan Maigag gave Cloquet a big jolt, running in a huge 69-yard score to give the Lumberjacks the lead yet again, 14-7.

Cloquet added to their lead in the fourth quarter, as their defense didn’t allow a single score, while Spencer Wehr ran in a quick 4-yard touchdown to give them a final of 21-7.

Maigag would end the game with 110 yards rushing on 12 attempts.

Cloquet (5-2) will play New Life Academy/St. Croix Prep Wednesday before playoffs begin, while Hibbing (2-5) will face off with Greenway at home on Wednesday.
