The Proctor Rails traveled to take on the Cloquet Lumberjacks on Friday night. The Rails spoiled the Lumberjacks homecoming game, squeaking by with a 9-7 victory.

The Rails got off to a quick start when John Aase bolted 82 yards to the end zone on the opening kickoff to give the Rails a 6-0 lead.

It would remain 6-0 until the 4th quarter when the Lumberjacks finally got on the board. Tim Pokornowski connected on a 37 yard pass to Joseph Deppa to give the Lumberjacks the late 7-6 lead. The Lumberjacks were then forced to punt with a minute remaining in the game, but Proctor’s Matt Zupetz bolted into the backfield to block the punt and give the Rails the ball at the 12 yard line. Aase would then secure the win for the Rails, nailing a 25 yard game winning field goal.

The Rails are not 5-1 on the year and will face off with the Hermantown Hawks on October 14th. The Lumberjacks drop to 4-2 on the season and will look to bounce back when they host Hibbing on October 14th.
