The Duluth Denfeld Hunters came back from behind on Friday night to take home the 36-34 victory over their rivals, the Duluth East Greyhounds.

The Greyhounds got out to an early advantage when Jack Rashid and Tyler Seymour connected on an 11 yard pass to make it 6-0. Later in the quarter, Rashid found Blake Salfer on a 31 yard connection, pushing the early lead up to 12-0.

The Hunters weren’t ready to quit, however, when Cody Brown found Brody Russell on a 26 yard pass to cut the Greyhounds lead down to 12-6. Later, Brown threw his second touchdown, this time on a 6 yard pass to Jacob Herold. Brown then found Dylan Salo for the two point conversion to take the 14-12 lead. The Greyhounds responded, this time on the ground when Joshua Daniels-Hanbury scampered his way to the end zone from 39 yards out. Daniels-Hanbury would then convert the two point convert ion with a catch from Rashid to make it a 20-14 lead heading into the half.

To kick off the second half, Duluth Denfeld’s Jacob Herold plunged into the end zone from 8 yards away. Cody Brown then connected with Brody Russell on the two point conversion to make it a 22-20 lead for the Hunters. The Greyhounds regained the lead later in the quarter when Daniels-Hanbury ran 9 yards to the end zone, 26-22.

In the 4th quarter, the Hunters battled their way down the field and regained the lead on a 1 yard push by Herold to make it 28-26. Later, Duluth East’s Jack Rashid threw his 3rd touchdown of the game, this time on a 70 yard connection with Daniels-Hanbury. Rashid then converted the two point conversion on a pass to Seymour, making it 34-28. The Hunters got the ball back with plenty of time which saw the game winning touchdown come on a 21 yard pass from Brown to Herold, making it 34-34. The Hunters took the risk and went for the two point conversion and converted it when Herold pushed his way into the end zone to make it a 36-34 victory for the Hunters.

The Hunters, who beat the Greyhounds for the first time since 2013, start their season off 1-0. They will be back in action on September 9th when they host Aitkin. The Greyhounds begin 0-1 and will look to bounce back on September 9th against Cambridge-Isanti.
