Cloquet Trounces Esko To Start The Season

The Cloquet Lumberjacks kicked their season off facing against their rivals, the Esko Eskomos. The Lumberjacks got the best of the Eskomos this year behind Spencer Wehr’s three touchdown performance, winning 39-14.

Wehr kicked the Lumberjacks season off with a 5 yard plunge to give the Lumberjacks an early 7-0 lead to end the 1st quarter.

In the 2nd quarter, the Eskomos responded with an 8 yard scamped by Tyler Peterson, cutting the lead down to 7-6. Wehr would respond with an 8 yard touchdown of his own, pushing the Lumberjacks lead back to 7 after the missed extra point. The Lumberjacks would then increase their lead to 20-6 after Kobe Kadelback ran 13 yards to the end zone.

The Eskomos would chip away again at the lead, this time through the air when Stone DeLeon connected with Dawsen Cossalter on a 14 yard connection. DeLeon then tossed it to Reid Davidson to convert the 2 points, making it 20-14 in favor of the Lumberjacks. The Lumberjacks would find the end zone one more time before the half, this time on a pass from Tim Pokornowski, who found Mitchell Gerlach on a 47 yard connection to make it 26-14 heading into the half.

Spencer Wehr would kick off the 3rd quarter with his third touchdown of the night, another 8 yard run to make it a 33-14 score. Gerlach would finalize the score in the 4th quarter when he bolted 26 yards to the end zone making it a final score of 39-14.

The Lumberjacks are now 1-0 on the young season and will look to remain in the win column when they travel to play Virginia on September 9th. The Eskomos start the year off 0-1 and will look to get their first win on September 9th when they travel to play Two Harbors.
