Bulldogs Start Playoffs With Two Wins

The top-seeded Carlton Bulldogs kicked off the Section 7A playoffs with two victories over Ely and Nashwauk-Keewatin.

In game one, the Bulldogs had to come back from a 5-3 deficit in the bottom of the 7th inning to squeak out a 6-5 victory. Brynne Mickle notched the victory, going 7 innings allowing 5 runs on 11 hits while striking out 3. Hannah Benson propelled the offense by going 2-4 with a home run, while Taylor Nelson went 3-4 with 2 RBI’s.

In the second game of the night, the Bulldogs got past the Nashwauk-Keewatin Spartans, 7-4. Abby Mickle got the win, going 7 innings while allowing 4 runs on 6 hits while striking out 7 batters. Benson, once again, led the offensive way by going 2-3 with 2 RBI’s. Taylor Nelson and Abbey Lemke chipped in by going 2-3 in the win.

The Bulldogs, who are now 16-6, will now face a familiar opponent when they face the defending 7A section champions, the Cherry Tigers. Cherry won their matchup earlier this season, 5-4. They will square off again inn May 31st at 2PM in Cohasset with the winner advancing to the Section 7A championship game.
