The 10th-ranked and #5 seed Wheaton/Herman-Norcross used a pair of first half runs to build a double-digit leading in holding off ninth-ranked #4 seed Cromwell-Wright 70-55 on Thursday afternoon in the MSHSL Class A Quarterfinal played at Mariucci Arena on the campus of the University of Minnesota.

The WHN Warriors will play top-ranked and #1 seed Goodhue in the state semifinals on Friday at noon across the street at Williams Arena.

The Warriors used a 12-1 run to build a 17-6 lead in the first five and a half minutes and would later push the margin to 14 (28-14) with just over six minutes left in the half. They carried a 38-26 lead into the break as Briona Edwards sparked the team with 17 points off the bench on 8-10 shooting.

The Cardinals would chip the lead into the single digits multiple times in the second half but weren’t able to come closer than a nine point margin as the game held between nine and 15 points throughout the second half.

Edwards finished with a game-high 21 points on 10-13 shooting to lead the Warriors. Emma Schmidt added 11 points, seven rebounds, five assists, four steals and two blocks. Jordan Stafford added a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds, dishing out five assists.

Bailey Gronner led the Cardinals with 19 points and eight rebounds, making five three-pointers.
