Cromwell Remains Perfect

The Cromwell Cardinals improved to 7-0 Tuesday night as the Lady Cardinals defeated the Cloquet Lumberjacks 70-59 in the first round of the annual Wood City Classic.

Cromwell struck fast and furious in the first half lighting up the scoreboard with three pointers as the Cardinals built up a 30-10 lead midway through the first half.

The Lumberjacks battled back down the stretch of the first half cutting the Cromwell lead to 12 points at 38-26 behind Kassidy Steen’s 17 first half points.

Cloquet came out in the second half and would cut the lead to seven points but could not get any closer, as Cromwell exploded to a 23 point lead late in the second half.

Chelsea Swatek hit six three pointers on the way to her team high 26 points. Bailey Gronner added 12 points and Teana Hakamaki added 11 in the win.

Steen led all scores as she finished with 27 points for Cloquet, and Allie Wojtysiak added 15 in the loss.

Cromwell will face Duluth Denfeld to the girls championship tomorrow at 1 pm, while the lumberjacks will meet black in the third place game.
