East Tops Denfeld in Boys Hoops

Duluth East topped Duluth Denfeld in boys basketball action  by a final score of 61-45 at Duluth Denfeld Friday night.

The Greyhounds held the 31-24 advantage as the halftime horn sounded and they’d build off that in the second half, outscoring the Hunters 30-21 to grab the 16 point victory, 61-45.

Cody Carlson led the way for the Greyhound, scoring a game high 22 points. Joey Zwak and Quentin Miller both hit double digits in the win, scoring 13 and 12 points respectively. The Greyhounds scoring was rounded out by Noah Twomey and Malique Goulet who each scored 5, Brandon Newman who had 2 points, and Jeremiah Ross and Jalen Vatthauer who each had 1.

Shane Yagoda had a team high, 14 points, for the Hunters in the loss. Jaaren Jorgenson pitched in 11, while Marques Jones added 9. Trevor Otteson scored 7 for the Hunters, and Caleb Gibson and Ben Gibson topped off the scoring with 2 points each.

The Greyhounds improve to 3-4 on the season and will look to put together back to back wins for the first time this season when they square off with the Cloquet Lumberjacks on the road on December 18th. The Hunters fall to 1-4 on the year and will look to bounce back against Grand Rapids on December 15th.
