The Hermantown Hawks started fast late Friday night as they jumped out to a 4-0 lead over the Tigers of Morris Area – Chokio- Alberta, and as just as fast as the Hawks had the lead Hermantown would let it slip away as the Hawks fell to the Tigers 3-0 in the Consolation rounds of the Class AA State Volleyball Tournament.

The Hawks who let the Tigers back into the match seemed not to b able to attack the net as they have done all season long and use their middle and outside hitters to their advantage.

Instead the Hawks had to settle for dumps and soft passes over the net in which the Tigers capitalized and attacked with many powerful kills.

The Hawks lost the first set of the match 25-17, and the second set was very similar to the first where the Tigers were the aggressors and took play to Hermantown as they came away with a 25-14 win in the second set.

Hermantown played much better in the third set attacking and taking play to the Tigers in a set where there were 11 ties and 16 lead changes, but in the end it was the Hawks unforced errors which allowed the Tigers to sweep Hermantown and move into the consolation finals against Hill Murray on Saturday.

The Hawks finish 25-6 on the season and they will graduate three seniors Hailey Menzel, Kylie Hoff, and Cassidy Kaneski. NSO would like to congratulate Hermantown on a fine season and making it to the state tournament for the first time in twenty years!
