NSO – NEWS RELEASE

The University of Denver spoiled the University of Minnesota Duluth’s 2015-16 National Collegiate Hockey Conference home opener by downing the hosts 3-0 Friday night.

Jarid Lukosevicius scored a pair of second-period power play goals and Evan Cowley turned aside 27 shots for the Pioneers, who became the first club since Feb. 14, 2014 (University of North Dakota) to hold the Bulldogs scoreless at AMSOIL Arena.

Grant Arnold struck 40 seconds after Lukosevicius’ second score with two minutes to play before the second intermission as No. 8 Denver (5-3-0 overall 3-0-0-0 NCHC) improved to 5-1-1 all-time at AMSOIL Arena. The loss was the fourth in the row for UMD.

The No. 13 Bulldogs (3-5-0; 0-3-0-0 NCHC), who came into the weekend averaging 37.1 shots per night, were outshot (29-27) for just the third time this season and they are 0-3-0 in those three games. Bulldog sophomore goaltender Kasimir Kaskisuo, making his 22nd consecutive start, registered 26 saves.

UMD was 0-2 on the power play  — including one five-minute opportunity following a five-minute boarding major to Dylan Gambrell — while Denver went 2-for-6.
