Playoff Volleyball Recap 10-29-15

Playoff volleyball is underway in the Northland with 9 match ups throughout Sections 7AAA, 7AA, and 7A.

In 7AAA, the Duluth East Greyhounds fell to Cambridge-Isanti in 4 matches. The Greyhounds won the first match of the evening, winning 25-21 but would fall in the next three matches, 21-25, 19-25, and 24-26. Daisy Hoops had 10 kills in the loss for Duluth East. The Greyhounds finished their season with a record of 11-14.

In 7AA, Cloquet defeated Pine City in three straight matches, winning 25-13, 25-16, and 25-17. Kassidy Steen tallied 12 kills and teammate Taylor Leyrer added 10 kills int he victory for the Lumberjacks. Cloquet will now face Mora on Friday, October 30th at 7:00pm in Cloquet.

In another 7AA matchup, the Proctor Rails lost to Greenway in three straight, falling 5-25, 23-25, and 10-25. Abby Rohweder had 5 blocks in the loss, as the Rails finish their season with a record of 5-21.

Hermantown defeated Two Harbors in the 7AA tournament, beating them 25-9, 25-15, and 25-19. Hailey Menzel had 13 kills in the win for the Hawks, who will match up with Hibbing on the 30th of October at 7:00pm in Hermantown.

Also in 7AA, the Eskomos fell to the Mora Mustangs in 5 matches. Esko lost the first two matches, 21-25 and 24-26 and went on to win the next two, 25-16 and 26-24 before falling in the 5th match, 10-15. Leading the Eskomos was Suntina Spehar with 12 kills and 7 blocks. The Eskomos finished their season 14-12.

In Section 7A, it was the defending section champion, Carlton Bulldogs upending the Barnum Bombers in 4 matches. The Bulldogs won the first two, 25-10 and 25-20 before dropping the third 22-25. They would win the 4th match 25-13 to move on in the playoffs. Leading the way was Macy Belich with 21 kills, followed by Amanda Groth with 9.

In another 7A matchup, the South Ridge Panthers defeated Lakeview Christian Academy in three straight, winning 25-21, 25-6, and 25-9. Mallory Thibault had 10 kills in the win, followed by Lindsey Janke, who had 8 in the win. The Panthers will host the Carlton Bulldogs on October 30th at home at 7:00pm.

The top seeded Cook County Vikings beat the McGregor Mercs in three straight, winning 25-12, 25-10, and 25-10. Linden Sutton and Meredith Sutton each had 6 kills in the win. The Mercs finish their season with a 8-16 record.

Also in 7A, the Wrenshall Wrens beat Cromwell, 25-18, 25-21, and 26-24 to advance in the playoffs. Tatum Swanson had 12 kills in the victory for the Wrens. Wrenshall will travel to play Cook County on October 30th with a start of 7:00pm.
