It took 4 games, but the Cloquet Lumberjacks rode the strong one-two hitting punch of Kassidy Steen and Anna Hansmeyer, along with the strong offensive setting of Jessica Stone, to a 3-1 win over Superior in girls high school volleyball on Thursday night.

The Jacks won the first two games of the match 25-21 and 25-13 and appeared to be on the edge of a blowout victory over the Spartans.  That all changed in game three when the Spartans rallied to take a 22-25 win of their own.  The Lumberjacks bounced back and reclaimed the momentum in game four to win the final game 25-19.
Steen and Hansmeyer finished with 16 and 14 kills respectively and Steen also notched a pair of blocks.  Stone finished with a huge game that included 27 set assists, six kills and four ace serves.  Taylor Leyrer also was strong with six kills and 18 digs in the back row.  Madison Schmitz and Hazel Erickson also had big games with Schmitz recording 19 set assists and 11 digs and Erickson adding 17 digs in an impressive defensive display.
Leading the Spartans with seven kills apiece were Amber Welsh and Whitney Larson.
