Gobblers Rush over Rebels

Jerod Novak and Caleb Curtiss combined for 336 yards rushing and all three touchdowns as the Gobblers ended the Rebels 51 home game winning streak dating all the way back form 2005.

A scoreless first half gave way to the second half where the Gobblers pound the ball on the ground as Novak and Curtiss rushed for 225 second half yards.

Novak put the Gobblers ahead 8-0 in the third quarter when he sco0red the first of his two 1 yard touchdown runs.

Novak made it 16-0 early in the third quarter on his second run of the game. The Rebels scored their first touchdown with 5:24 remaining in the fourth quarter when Conner Radel scored on a quarterback keeper.

After a failed onside kick, Aitkin marched down the field and Curtiss added to the score as the Gobblers built up the lead to 24-6.

The Rebels did add a late score as Radel connected with Manny Ramirez on a 25 yard touchdown pass with 12 seconds remaining in the game.

Novak finished with 169 yards rushing while Curtiss ended with 167 yards rushing.

The Rebels fall to 5-2 and they will face the Hermantown Hawks next Thursday night in Willow River.

Aitkin improves to 4-3 and will host Eveleth-Gilbert next Friday night.
