UMD Women Capture 3rd Straight Title

Two up. Two down.

The University of Minnesota Duluth won its second team title in as many tries in 2015, taking top honors at the 20-team St Olaf College Invitational Saturday morning in Northfield, Minn.

Senior Hannah Olson (22:19.2), junior Breanna Colbenson (22:27.0) and sophomore Emilee Trost (22:38.6) placed 5th, 6th and 7th, respectively, in leading the Bulldogs to their third straight St. Olaf Invitational championship.

Freshman Allyson Girard was next, finishing 15th in the 6K, 292-competitor race with a time of 23:08.8, while sophomore McKenzie Holt was 17th (23:15.9) rounded out the UMD point getters.

Sophomore Amber Seidenkranz (21st; 23:35.2) and her older sister, senior Erica Seidenkranz (24th; 23:38.7) were the next two Bulldog finishers.

 
The Bulldogs, who were ranked fourth in this week’s United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Division II poll, posted a team score of 50 points — 25 ahead of runner up Carleton College. Host St. Olaf took third with 104 points.

“We had a tough week of practice and for this time of year, we were working through this meet,” said UMD head coach Joanna Warmington. “Coming home with a title showed me our team’s strength. They ran a strong race.”

UMD will be in Falcon Heights, Minn., next Saturday (Sept. 26) to defend its Maroon Division II crown at the prestigious University of Minnesota Roy Griak Invitational.
