Bulldogs Can’t Contain Mercs

It was the McGregor Mercs prevailing Friday night, as they took down the Carlton Bulldogs by a score of 49-26. Leading the charge for the Mercs was Noah Johnson, who scored an impressive four touchdowns on the night.

 

The game saw a lot of offensive yards being racked up on the ground and impressively in the air, as both teams started scoring early. On their first drive for the Mercs, it was Johnson taking it to the house 29 yards out for the score. Carlton would answer back on a Jackson Mickle pass to Nate Nilsen for the 30-yard score.

 

The following drive would see the Mercs fumble on a kick attempt, with Carlton recovering the ball. The next Bulldog possession would follow suit, as Nate Nilsen fumbled, giving possession back to McGregor. The Dogs would get the ball right back though, and score on a pass to Nilsen from six yards out. Noah Johnson would then find the end zone for the Mercs on a 4-yard touchdown run.

 

The second quarter would see a lot of scoring as well, as Noah Johnson ran in his third score from the 1-yard line for the Mercs. Nate Nilsen would fumble again the following Carlton possession, and the Mercs would capitalize, scoring on a 20-yard pass to Billy Staska to bring the score 30-14. Mickle would then find Adams again for a 21-yard pass to bring it to 30-20. But it was McGregor answering right back, on a nice pass to Jonas for the score. Ending the half was Carlton’s Jackson Mickle throwing an interception with 44 seconds left to halftime.

 

Starting the scoring off the second for the Dogs was Senior Ryan Adams, scampering 18 yards for the touchdown. The Mercs had no issue scoring right back however, as Noah Johnson scored his 4th touchdown of the game on a 14-yard rush. The end of the third quarter saw a score of 43-26, Mercs advantage.

 

The Mercs started out the final quarter hot, seeing Jacob Jonas running it in from the 6-yard line for another score. There would be no more scoring from either team the rest of the game, as the finals score would be 49-26. Johnson and Jonas combined for 6 touchdowns to lead the Mercs. McGregor (3-0) will take on the Floodwood Polar Bears next week, as the Dogs (1-2) will host Hillcrest Lutheran at 5 p.m.
