The Fond du Lac Tribal and Community College Thunder Football Team opened their 2015 season on Saturday afternoon at the Spartan Field Complex in Superior, Wisconsin.
The Thunder hosted Minnesota State-Fergus Falls in a Minnesota College Athletic Conference match-up between teams playing across conference divisions the new alignment of MCAC Eastern and Western Divisions.
The Thunder defense played well on the way to posting the shutout. One of the early keys to the game was a goal-line stand by the Thunder defense in the second quarter which resulted in a blocked field goal by the Thunder’s Damon Barnes (Baltimore, MD).
Interceptions by Thunder defensive back Donte Arnold (Woodstock, IL) in the third quarter and Thunder linebacker Kieran Bender (Ashland, WI) in the fourth quarter also highlighted the Thunder defensive effort.
Thunder running back Josh Bender of Ashland scored two rushing touchdowns to lead the Thunder scoring. The first big scoring play of the season for the Thunder was a 56-yard pass from quarterback Kendarian Carter (Houston, TX) to running back Te’Vaughn Hurse (Fort Wayne, IN) in the first quarter.
Rusty Becker was the defensive leader for Minnesota State-Fergus Falls with 2.5 sacks and 7.5 tackles in the loss.
