MLWR Steam Rolls Bombers

The MLWR Rebels retained the Little Brown Jug in a rivalry game over Barnum, steam rolling them 56-0 in their season opener. The Rebels have never lost to Barnum in the rivalry and are now 10-0 against Barnum.

The Rebels kicked their scoring off when Isaac Riihiluoma pushed his way into the end zone from 4 yards out. Bryceton Butkiewicz would follow, running in from 7 out to make it an early 12-0 lead for the Rebels at the end of the first quarter.

In the 2nd quarter, they would increase their lead to 19-0 when quarterback Connor Radel connected with Butkiewicz on a 49 yard pass. Moose Lakes defense would get into the action, when Craig Nelson tackled the offender in their own end zone for a safety to make it 21-0.

Radel would get his second passing touchdown of the evening in the 2nd quarter, hitting Riihiluoma from 6 yards out to push the lead to 27-0. The Rebels weren’t done there. Wyatt Lampen plunged in from 2 yards out and the Rebels converted the two point attempt, pushing the score to 35-0. The Rebels would make it s 42-0 lead at the half after Riihiluoma scored his 3rd TD of the game on a 34 yard scamper.

The Rebels would be held to just 14 points in the 2nd half by the Bombers. Butkiewicz scored a 12 yard run in the 3rd quarter and Colton Little found the end zone on a 6 yard run, making the final score 56-0.

Moose Lake-Willow River kicks their season off with a 1-0 record and will look to continue their dominance on when they travel to play Duluth Marshall on August 28th with a 4:00pm kickoff. The Bombers will look to bounce back from the loss, as they travel to take on Deer River on August 28th.
