Lumberjacks Captured Third

The Cloquet Lumberjacks scored three runs in the top of the seventh inning to win 5-4 over Providence Academy in the consolation championship game of the Class AA State Baseball Tournament at Joe Faber Field in St. Cloud.

Gabe Sorenson went 2-for-4 with two RBI, Gavin Takkunen went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and an RBI, and Mason Brenner went 2-for-4 with an RBI for the Lumberjacks.

Nate Weets was the winning pitcher after pitching the final six innings in relief and not allowing a run. Daniel Fafinski had two hits for the Lions.

Providence Academy led 4-0 after one inning.

The Lumberjacks advanced to the consolation championship with a 3-1 win over Glencoe – Silver Lake, as again it was Gavin Takkunen providing all the offense the Lumberjacks needed as her crushed a 3-1 pitch over the left field wall for a three run home run driving in Brandon Conklin and Nate Weets.

Glencoe Silver Lakes offense was stifled as it only managed five hits and struck out 11 times.

Brandon Conklin was the winning pitcher for the Lumberjacks. who finish the season 18-5 overall.
