Inaugural Polar League All Star Game Goes Into Extras

The Polar League conference held their Inaugural Polar League All Star game at Wade Stadium on Tuesday afternoon, pitting the Blue division against the Silver division.

The Blue Division consists of players from Esko, Barnum, MLWR, Cook County, South Ridge, and Two Harbors while the Silver Division has players from Silver Bay, Carlton, Floodwood, McGregor, and Wrenshall.

The Blue Division would top the Silver Division 11-9 in extra innings to win the first ever Polar League All Star Game.

The Silver Division struck first, scoring a quick run in the first, when Carlton’s Evan Gray double that drove in Floodwood’s Tanner Haggedahl. The Blue Division would respond in the 3rd, with MLWR’s Kody Gerard scoring on a single from Esko’s Matt Bolgrean. The Blue Division would tack on 3 more in the 4th, with the big hit coming from Gerard who drove in 2 runs, giving them the 4-1 lead.

The Silver Division wouldn’t give up however, when Silver Bay’s Nathan Bauck scored on a pass ball in the bottom of the inning to make it 4-2. The Blue Division added 2 more to their lead, with the big hit coming from Two Harbors Tim Bott driving in MLWR’s Eric Prachar. With the score 6-2 in favor of the Blue Division, the Silver Division put up a crooked number in the bottom of the 5th, scoring 5 runs. Floodwood’s Riley Bernsdorf would drive in the first run and Silver Bays Marc Small drove in the second run. The Silver division would take advantage of errors on the blue divisions part, scoring 3 more runs in the inning to take the 7-6 lead.

They made it 8-6 in the bottom of the 6th with another RBI single from Bernsdorf, this time driving in Floodwood teammate Tanner Heggedahl. In the top of the 7th, the Blue Division would rally by first scoring an unearned run to make it 8-7. Bott would then drive in Prachar to tie it at 8-8. With 1 out in the inning, Gerard would drive in his 3rd run of the game, bringing in Bott to take the 9-8 lead.

In the bottom of the 7th, the Silver division would string together 3 hits, which would eventually score Marc Small off McGregor’s Chase Hoovers single to send it into extra innings. In extras, the Blue division would take the lead from a bases loaded walk to give them a 10-9 lead. They later would score on a sacrifice fly from South Ridges Reid Clark to make it an 11-9 score. The Silver division wouldn’t be able to respond, making it an 11-9 final in favor of the Blue division.

Two Harbors Lucas Kempffer got the win for the Blue division, pitching 2 innings, allowing 1 run on 5 hits and striking out 1. At the plate, Cook Countys Owen Anderson went 1-4 with an RBI and Travis Bradley went 1-3. MLWR’s Kody Gerard went 2-4 with 3 RBI’s, Esko’s Matt Bolgrean went 1-3 with an RBI and Cole Litsey would go 1-2. Barnum’s Tommy Ziegler went 1-2, Two Harbors Tim Bott went 2-2 with 2 RBI’s and teammate Lucas Kempffer had an RBI. Lastly, South Ridge’s Zach Johnson went 1-3, while Reid Clark tallied an RBI in the win.

Cole Hoover took the loss for the Silver division, pitching 1 inning, allowing 4 runs on 3 hits and walking 2. On the offensive side, Carlton Dominic Bennett went 2-2 and Evan Gray went 3-4 with an RBI. Floodwoods Tanner Haggedahl went 1-3, Riley Bernsdorf went 2-4 with 2 RBIs, and Kyle Tamminen went 2-4. Silver Bays Marc Small went 2-4 with an RBI, teammate Nathan Bauck went 2-4, Spencer Tiboni went 1-3, and Nick Perfetto went 2-4, and finally, McGregors Chase Hoover went 1-3 with an RBI.
