South Ridge Falls In 7A Finals

The South Ridge Panthers and the Deer River Warriors went to battle on Thursday night in the Section 7A finals. The Panthers would take the first game, 7-2 but would lose a heartbreaker in the 2nd game, losing 8-5, leaving them as the Section 7A runners-up for the second consecutive season.

In game 1, Vincent Wood got the victory for the Panthers, tossing a complete game. He gave up 2 runs on 8 hits, while striking out 4 and walking none. Reid Clark went 1-2 with 3 RBI’s in the win and Christian Houle went 2-3 with a home run and 3 RBI’s.

Chad Benham took the loss for the Warriors, tossing 6 innings, allowing 4 earned runs on 8 hits, while walking 5 and striking out 4. Aaron Drotts went 3-3 and Jaxson Willis went 2-3 in the loss.

In game 2, Deer Rivers Jeffrey Moore got the win, going 5 innings, allowing just 1 run on 1 hit while only striking out 2. On the offensive side for the Warriors, Chad Benham went 1-3 with 2 RBI’s, Dakota Goggleye went 2-4 with an RBI, and Jaxson Willis went 2-3 with an RBI.

Mark Lisic took the loss for the Panthers. Zach Johnson went 3-4 with 2 RBI’s and Reid Clark went 2-3 with 2 RBIs.

The Panthers finished their season with an impressive 17-8 record and they will be returning most of their team as they only graduate two players from this years roster. The Deer River Warriors move onto the state tournament with a 14-11 record. Their opponent has yet to be determined.
