The Cloquet Lumberjacks scored in every inning they batted Thursday night as the Lumberjacks scored four runs in the first, third and fourth innings, while adding two in the second en route to a 14-1 victory over the defending section 7AA champion Aitkin Gobblers.

The Lumberjacks will return to the state tournament for the first time since 2010 with the victory.

Mason Brenner got the win on the mound, pitching a complete 5 innings and letting his defense work behind him as he allowed 6 hits while only walking one and striking out one. Nate Weets went 1-1 with 2 RBI’s and 4 runs scored in the victory. Gavin Takkunen went 2-4 with 2 RBIs, Gabe Sorenson went 2-3 with 3 RBIs, Mason Brenner helped himself at the plate going 1-3 with 2 RBI’s and Huter Roberts went 1-2 with an RBI and run scored.

Wyatt Sanford took the loss for the Aitkin Gobblers, pitching 2 innings, allowing 8 hits and 6 earned runs, while walking 4 and striking out 3. Drew Nordean went 2-3 with a run score in the loss and Dylan Quade went 2-2.

The Lumberjacks opponent has yet to be determined, but they will be back in action on June 11th at the Mini Met Stadium in Jordan. The Lumberjacks will enter the tournament with a 16-4 record.
