Hawks Open State Play with 8-1 Win

Jillayne Gilbert and Kailey Mihalik each had three hits to lead a 14 hit attack by the Hawks as they opened state tournament play with the 8-1 victory Thursday afternoon in North Mankato.

Hermantown used four, two run innings to get past Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton 8-1.

The Rebels got on the board first with a run in the bottom of the first, unfortunately for them it would be their only run of the game.

Kailey Mihalik had a two run homer in the third to put the Hermantown Hawks up 2-1. It was the first of three homers in the game for the Hawks.

The other two came courtesy of Jillayne Gilbert, who became the fourth player in tournament history to have two homers in a game. She is also the 12th player to have two homers in a tournament.

Gilbert also added five runs batted in for the Hawks, while Brooke Dahlin, Ashley Irwin, and Hannah Mihalik each added two hits for Hermantown.
