It was a seven run, five hit third inning helped propel Virginia to a 10-8 win over Proctor during first round action of the 7AA Tournament Tuesday in Virginia as the Blue Devils ended the Rails season in the section 7AA playoffs.

Heading into the third inning, the Rails held a slim 1-0 lead when catcher Hannah Johnson hit a two-out single to bring home Megan Cornelison from second base.

Proctor began a rally that would add three runs on all singles. The Rails hit a pair of doubles in the top of the sixth resulting in a 9-5 game. The inning ended with a 9-6 mark after a walk and an RBI single for Proctor.

Krista Mottonen hit an RBI single to make it 10-8 and she reloaded the bases for Ashley Hanson who was thrown out at third on a fielder’s choice to end the threat and the game.

Sarah Urban pitched four innings in the loss. She allowed eight hits and got five strikeouts and two walks. In two innings of relief, Gunderson allowed five hits, hit a batter and struck out three.

The Devils got 13 hits off the Rails pitchers. Erin Hawk led the Rails with three hits, as the Rails end the season 5-14 overall as the drop their last 9 straight games.

In other section 7AA softball action the Esko Eskomos were hoping to knock off the Aitkin Gobblers and move into the section quarterfinals but that wasn’t to be as the Gobblers beat the Eskomos by a final score of 8-7 in 9 innings.

The Eskomos who had won 3 of their last 4 coming into the playoffs were hoping for the upset but it was the Gobblers advancing into the section quarterfinals.

Esko finishes their season with a record of 7-13.
