Gerard’s Walk Off Home Run Leads Rebels

Kody Gerard’s two out, two-run home run in the bottom of the seventh inning led the Rebels to a 6-4 section victory over the Proctor Rails Friday afternoon in Moose Lake.

Gerard’s home run the third hit of the game for Gerard gave the Rebels the section win as they improved to 9-4 on the season. Gerard also finished with three RBI’s in the win.

The win by the Rebels also snapped a five game win streak by the Rails dating all the way back to 2009. The Rails hold a 7-3 margin over the Rebels in the last ten meetings.

The Rebels got on the scoreboard first as the scored three runs in the bottom of the first inning, a RBI double by Brad Fossum scored Teddy Ryan who led off the inning with a single, Fossum later scored on a single by Gerard, and it was Gerard scoring on a wild pitch to give the Rebels a 3-0 lead.

The game stayed that way until the top of the fifth when Proctor’s Matt Tracey who reached on a error, scored on a sac fly from Jake Malec.

Proctor tied the game 3-3 in the top of the sixth inning as Matt Sievert and John Aase both scored following lead off walks int he inning.

The Rebels retook the lead in the bottom on the sixth when Gerard who doubled to start the inning scored on a ground out to second baseman Dylan Pionk of the bat of Joey Whited.

Aase’s RBI single in the top of the seventh inning scored Matt Morris with the game tying run, before Gerard’s home run scored Eric Pracher and himself for the win.

Brad Fossum got the win for the Rebels, Fossum came in relief of Teddy Ryan in the sixth inning, Michael Gales was the losing pitcher for the Rails.

Teddy Ryan had two hits for MLWR, while Jessie Granfors, Charlie Adamczak, and Wyatt Lampel had the Rebels other hits.

Brandt Fostrom and Pionk each had two hits in the loss for the Rails, Nathan Carlson, Malec, and Aase had the hits for Proctor.

The Rebels will face Virginia on Monday in Virginia while the Rails will play Duluth Marshall Tuesday afternoon in Duluth.
