A feisty Ashland boys tennis team took on a strong Cloquet team in boy’s tennis Tuesday at the Cloquet High School courts. It was Ashland’s second road trip in two days as they topped Hermantown the day before at the Hawks courts.
The long days of bus rides may have been too much as the Lumberjacks took the Oredockers 5-2.
The top of the Lumberjack line up took the singles matches in straight sets as first Robert Sobczak put down Zach Whiting 6-2, 6-1 and second Joseph Gotchik eased past Luke Sherry 6-3, 6-2.
Then all three CEC doubles teams swept over the Oredockers with Pritchett / Willgohs at one taking it 6-0, 6-1, second of Keith and P Tomhave going 6-1, 6-2 and third of L Tomhave and Acheson going 6-1, 6-0 for the 5 games won.
Third and fourth singles for the Lumberjacks saw Anders Pertler lost a tight 6-2, 7-6 (4) match and Daniel Stevens going to a third set tie break 1-6, 6-2, 7-10 as the match had been decided.

With the win the Lumberjacks remain in contention for the LSC championship with a match against Marshall to decide that as well as a top seed in section 7A with matches against Virginia and Marshall counting towards that end.
