With several of their varsity missing due to varying circumstances The Duluth East Greyhounds were still able to handle a Hermantown team that has no returning varsity letter winners by a 7-0 score. Having graduated 14 seniors, last years entire varsity team, the Hawks come into the heart of their schedule with a whole new lineup.

The home teams number one Isaac Hiner comes to the sport for only his second year (and after a trip to state in boys basketball) to face a hard hitting Elliot Schneider (moving up a spot in place of his older brother Martin who was out sick). Schneider took the match in straight sets 6-1, 6-2. At second singles East’s Derek Boese beat Reid Johnson 6-1, 6-1. Third singles saw Pranav Aggarwal playing at the position previously held by his older brother Nakul where he lost to Eric Patterson 6-1, 6-4. The final singles match saw Luke Hyjek close to Easts Tony Rich 6-1, 6-0.

In doubles, only the third doubles team could extend their match to a third set in Logan Zierden and Devin Lenz winning the first set 6-4 before losing a second 6-4 and third set tie break 9-7 against Brendon Peterson and Ben Schwartz. Sam Edgerton / Mason Moris at one doubles and Joe DeFrance / Siji Gonzalez at third doubles dropped both sets for the Hawks to Will Heyer / Luke Dow and Nolan Humphreys / Luke Hietala respectively.

The Hawks now face conference foes Denfeld and Ashland before going on the road for 8 of the next 9 matches.
