Wisconsin Boys Win Border Battle in Overtime

It was a last second basket Saturday afternoon, which propelled the Wisconsin All-Stars to victory over the Minnesota All-Stars 103-102. The Minnesota All-Stars led at the half 59-53, the game was tied at 92 at the end of regulation And Minnesota was up by two near the end of the extra session. However, it was Alex Culy of the Wisconsin All-Stars hitting a three-pointer with seconds remaining in overtime to give his team the win.

The Boarder Battle as it is labeled featured players from Minnesota against those from northern Wisconsin. The game sponsored by the Duluth Amateur Youth Basketball Association and was played in Wisconsin at Mortorelli Gym on the University of Wisconsin Superior campus.

Joey Bohaty of Moose Lake Willow River was one of the Minnesota All Stars selected for the All Star Game. Bohaty and ten other all stars battled in this All Star Game. Bohaty mentioned “Playing with the best players in the area” was what he said when he was asked what he liked best of this game. This was Joey’s fourth All Star Game of the week.

Jarred Sutherland led the Duluth Stars with 30 points, Justin Kangas added 12, Taylor Skoglund 11, Mike Carlson & Kenny Schofield 10, Montclair Chapman 7, Jonah Dahlman and Steve Golobich 6, Will Jackson and Matt Sjostrand 4, and Joey Bohaty finished with 2.

Tyler Brown of Eau Claire led the Wisconsin All Stars with 21, Andy Kliest and Keegan Meier both had 15, Alex Culy & Aaron Corry had 13 each for the Wisconsin Stars.
