Rushford-Peterson boys basketball team was hitting on all cylinders offensively Thursday might be a bit of an understatement.

Rushford-Peterson, 30-1 and ranked No. 1 in the state, showed why it’s the top seed in the Class A tournament as the Trojans rolled to a 105-58 quarterfinal victory over Fond du Lac Ojibwe at Williams Arena on the University of Minnesota campus, playing a near perfect offensive game in the process.

Fond du Lac entered the game averaging 80.3 points and game and was willing to play the game at a fast pace. But the Ogichidaag didn’t have the offensive firepower to keep pace or the defensive ability to slow the Trojans.

R-P was able to score at will, especially in the first half as the Trojans rolled to a 60-27 lead.

Senior guard Charlie Krambeer led the way for the Trojans. He scored a career-high 33 points, including 28 in the first half when he made 10 of 13 shots from the floor and was 6-for-7 from 3-point range.

The Trojans shot a sizzling 64.1 percent from the floor (41-for-64). And it’s not like they were getting inside shots every possession. The Trojans knocked down 16 of 27 3-point shots (59.3 percent), including 10-for-14 in the first half.

Senior Charlie Krambeer was outstanding for the Trojans with 33 points, 28 coming in the first half, on 12-17 shooting and 7-9 from beyond the arc. Krambeer also chipped in six assists, four rebounds and three steals as his seven three-pointers made fell three short of the tournament record.

Kyler Paulson, Jacob Merchlewitz and Alex Vix also scored in double figures for the Trojans.

As a team, Rushford-Peterson also fell three three-pointers shy of the record as they connected on 16-27 from deep.

Senior Cameron Thompson and junior Jordan Diver led the Ogichidaag with 14 points apiece as senior Dexter Delille added 13.

Rushford-Peterson pushed the pace in the first half with some high pressure defense. Fon Du Lac Ojibwe kept it close early as they trailed by just three points at the 14:26 mark of the first half with a score of 13-10, but the Trojans outscored the Ogichidaag 48-17 the rest of the half.

Rushford-Peterson knocked down 10 threes in the half, led by Krambeer’s six. The team shot an impressive 61.7% from the floor in the opening 18 minutes.

The Trojans shot an even higher percentage from the floor in the second half as they finished the game with a 64.1% (41-64) shooting percentage from the floor for the game. They led by as many as 50 and finished with a final margin of 105-58.

Rushford-Peterson will face the winner of #4 Central Minnesota Christian (23-3) and #5 Nevis (26-3) on Friday, March 13 at noon at Target Center.
