The first goal of the state tournament for the Hawks came at 13:45 of the first period in a classic Hermantown reversal in the neutral zone that brings a four player break on a sole Panther defensemen.
Wyatt Aamodt starts the play at his own blue line and calmly pushes the puck to a quickly advancing Nate Pionk who hits a streaking Ryan Kero. Kero catches the goalie leaning right and places the puck into an open left side of the net.
The second goal was nowhere near as organized as the first goal as a shot from Ryan Kero popped up in the slot and was rightly buried by Nate Pionk.

Hermantown used an aggressive 2-1-2 forecheck with good rotation and support to defensemen stepping up to keep the puck in the offensive end.

On the defensive side, the strong Hermantown defense contingent played calmly and in control, keeping the puck deep in the offensive zone or crisply advancing  it up ice to speedy forwards.

Hermantown did offer up a lot of odd man rushes to Spring Lake Park but good hustle and patient play allowed them to counter these opportunities.

A late 1st period penalty on the Panthers allowed the Hawks to easily move the puck in the offensive zone with short crisp passes resulting in a power play goal as sure handed defenseman Wyatt Aamodt passed the puck to partner Eric Gotz who advanced up the left side and rifled a shot that filtered through goalie Aaron Furlano to a waiting Nate Pionk who once again buried the puck, this time into an open net.

Period ends with the Panthers taking advantage of a slacking Hawk team to take several scary shots, but to no avail.

With both bands playing wonderful sounds and fans perky and lively, both teams energetically take to the ice. Hermantown went a man down but took advantage of this with several scoring opportunities.

More opportunities for the Hawks, this time from the outside,  as SLP holds them out of the center area until later in the period until another Hawk penalty.

Then, as thing seemed to be in a doldrum, the Hawks strike again on a set play of an offensive zone faceoff with Kyle Amundson winning the draw back to defenseman Wyatt Aamodt who steps up uncovered to wrist it high over the Panther goalie for goal number 4. Shortly after this on a clean break for Jesse Jacques that rings off the left post for a near miss.

Immediately after killing yet another penalty the top line strikes again. This time Pionk takes it hard up the left boards, taking  the SLP defenseman with him, leaving the puck to Koepke who swings around the net and hits wide open Kero on the weak side who buries yet another puck into an open net.

Once again SLP puts together a slight rally as leading scorer #10 Jacob Nystrom steps around a Hawk defenseman to take a clear shot that is smothered in the chest by HAwk goalie Luke Olson.

Early in the third the Hawks put the game into running time as #11 with their 6th unanswered goal. Ryan Sanderlin ripeds a shot from the point off a feed from Matt Valure. The Hawks also replaced their starting goal with #35 Cade McEwen at the start of the third. Later in the third period, SLP swapped out goalies, giving # 1 Nick Robinson the state tourney experience.

Hermantown continued to shoot from all points, inside and out, as they played a control game with the puck. Lastly, the Hawks scored two late goals to fill out hat tricks for both #6 Nate Pionk and # 7 Ryan Kero. Pionk and Kero finish the game with 3 goals and 3 assists each.

The Hawks will wait to see who they will play on Friday at 1:00 PM in the late semifinal game. It will be the winner of the late game tonight between St. Cloud Apollo and the Breck School.
